I have seen a lot of FCA and SIL reports, and this would have to be one of the best written assessments I have ever seen. I was a bit unsure initially due to it being telehealth only but so far, I have been impressed (and I’m not impressed easily). Thank you for making this such an easy process.
About Access Independence
About Us
Experienced senior OTs specialising in NDIS assessments, with strong clinical reasoning, clear reports and a straightforward process from referral through to completion.
Why We Started This
We kept seeing the same problems come up for participants, families and support coordinators – long waits for assessments, difficulty finding OTs with the right level of experience, and reports that didn’t always provide the depth of evidence and justification needed for important NDIS decisions.
Functional Capacity and Home & Living assessments can influence major decisions about someone’s supports, living arrangements and future care. We believe that kind of work needs maturity, strong clinical judgement and clinicians who understand both complex presentations and current NDIS requirements. Although the work is technical, the process should still feel clear and well organised from start to finish.
That’s why we built Access Independence around experienced senior Occupational Therapists who specialise in assessment work, supported by a professional, well-organised admin and management team. Our team stays up to date with changes across the NDIS and focuses on producing clear, detailed reports that properly explain a person’s needs and recommendations.
Our aim is simple: senior clinicians, strong evidence, clear reports, and a responsive team that is friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with.
We want the whole process to feel smooth and straightforward, while giving people the strongest possible foundation for the outcome they are seeking.

What Makes Us Different
We specialise in NDIS Occupational Therapy assessments.
Our clinicians regularly complete Functional Capacity, Home & Living and other complex NDIS assessments, with a strong focus on clinical reasoning, evidence and clear recommendations.
We also use a consistent report framework and internal quality assurance and peer-review process so every report is thoroughly checked before it is finalised.

How We Actually Work
Once we receive a referral, our admin team organises the service agreement and allocates the assessment to an appropriate senior OT.
The OT then contacts the participant, family or support coordinator to arrange the assessment and gather any relevant supporting information.
Assessments are completed using structured interviews, functional observations, recognised assessment tools and supporting evidence.
The OT then prepares the report, which goes through our internal quality assurance process before being finalised.
We keep everyone informed throughout the process and let you know early if we need additional information or if anything may affect the expected timeframe.

We provide Australia-wide NDIS Occupational Therapy assessments through a team of experienced senior OTs.
Our focus is simple: high-quality evidence, NDIA-compliant reports, strong clinical reasoning and a responsive team that is friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with.

Everything You Need to Know About Our NDIS Assessments
Common Questions
We know you have questions about telehealth assessments, timelines, and what makes a quality NDIS report. Here are the answers to what support coordinators and families ask us most.
Does the NDIA accept telehealth assessments?
Yes. The NDIA recognises that Functional Capacity Assessments rely on consultation, evidence gathering, and clinical reasoning—not hands-on therapy. An FCA isn’t about diagnosing conditions or delivering treatment. Our senior OTs consult with the participant, review evidence from their treating team, use validated assessment tools, and translate all of that information into clear, clinically justified recommendations. Quality comes from understanding NDIA expectations and presenting the evidence properly. Our OTs have completed more than 1,000 telehealth FCAs using this process, with consistently strong outcomes.
How quickly can you get the assessment done?
Within 48 hours of receiving the signed Service Agreement, we allocate a senior OT and our admin team contacts the participant to schedule. Assessment calls typically occur within 1–2 weeks, and reports are delivered 10–14 business days after the call. Have a tight deadline? Speak to us and we can prioritise.
What makes your reports different?
Three things set us apart. First, our standardised framework is continuously updated to match current NDIA expectations. Second, every report is written by a senior OT with 5+ years experience specialising exclusively in NDIS assessments, then peer-reviewed by another senior OT. Third, we focus on getting it right the first time, reducing the need for follow-ups or revisions. The result is detailed, evidence-based reports that properly address the participant’s needs and have strong success rates with the NDIA.
What types of assessments do you offer?
We provide:
- Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs)
- Supported Independent Living (SIL) reports
- Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) assessments
- Individualised Living Options (ILO) reports
All reports are NDIA-compliant and delivered via our secure telehealth platform.
What if there’s a tight plan review deadline?
Just note it in the referral form. Our admin and clinical coordination team can prioritise when needed for urgent cases. We consistently deliver high-quality, detailed reports even under tight timelines, without compromising accuracy or clinical depth.
Is telehealth assessment less stressful than in-person?
For many participants, yes. Video calls can feel less daunting than having a clinician visit your home. You’re in a familiar, comfortable environment and can have family members or carers present for support. Our OTs are experienced at making telehealth sessions relaxed and conversational while still gathering all the evidence needed for a comprehensive report.
Do you offer in-person assessments?
Yes. In-person assessments are available in selected areas across Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. Telehealth is available Australia-wide.
Can assessments be completed by telehealth?
Yes. Many Functional Capacity and Home & Living assessments can be completed effectively by telehealth, depending on the participant’s circumstances and assessment needs. Our senior OTs use the appropriate mix of interviews, supporting evidence, assessment tools and clinical reasoning to build a clear picture of the participant’s functional needs. In-person assessments are also available in selected areas across VIC, QLD and SA.
Do you support participants in regional or rural areas?
Yes. We support participants Australia-wide, including regional and remote areas. Telehealth is available nationally, with in-person assessments also available in selected areas across VIC, QLD and SA.
